The Story Of Ciung Wanara

Long-long time ago, there was a propereous and peaceful kingdom in West Java. There was name Galuh Pakuan. The name of the king is Prabu Permana Kusumah. He have two wives, Dewi Naganingrum and Dewi Pangrenyep.

One day, one of Prabu Permana minister, was named Aria Kebonan tell to Prabu Permana that Bathara Lengser called him.

While waiting for the arrival of Prabu Permana, he imaginated if he were a king. Suddenly, Prabu Permana Kusumah come and he knew what is in Aria Kebobonan heart. Then, Prabu Permana tell to Aria Kebonan that he want to meditation for a while, and Aria Kebonan can be the king of Galuh Pakuan during his absence. But Aria Kebonan must promise that he will rule kingdom wisely and not treat his two wives as Aria Kebonan wives. And Aria Kebonan promised it.

At the first, Aria Kebonan ruled his people well, but he changed a lot. He treated Prabu Permana wives to his wives. Not long after that, both Dewi Naganingrum and Dewi Pangrenyep pregnant and gave birth to son.

Aria Kebonan and Dewi Pangrenyep had a plot to kill Dewi Naganingrum‘s child. Her child washed away in the river. Bathara Lengser knew that it was Aria Kebonan and Dewi Pangrenyep’s trick, but he was afraid.

Meanwhile, Dewi Naganingrum’s child is fonded by Aki and Nini Balangantrang were in the river. Then Aki and Nini Balangantrang went home, they were afraid if something happened to the child. They gave name to the child Ciung Wanara.

Ciung Wanara grew up quickly. He was very smart, kind and strong. He loved Aki and Nini Balangantrang very much. They were very happy.

One day, he wanted to know who was his father. Aki and Nini  told the story several years ago. Aki told the true story when and where he found Ciung Wanara.

Then, Aki gave Ciung Wanara an egg. Ciung Wanara went to the jungle to get a hen. No hen can be found there, except a big snake, named Nagawiru. In fact, Nagawiru was the reincarnation of Prabu Permana Kusumah. Ciung wanara gave the egg to the snake. The snake made the egg into a very strong cock and have supernatural power too.

Ciung Wanara went to the palace to find a cockfighting. One by one of the cocks was beaten by Ciung Wanara’s. until Aria Kebonan invited Ciung Wanara to had a competition. If Ciung Wanara’s cock won in this competition, Aria Kebonan will give a part of his kingdom. But, if Ciung Wanara’s cock was killed, Ciung Wanara must be killed too. Ciung Wanara agree this deal, and released his cock. The fight was very fierce. After two hours, Aria Kebonan’s cock was dead. Aria Kebonan was very sad and felt that he had to give half of the kingdom to Ciung Wanara.

Finally, Ciung Wanara became the king of west Galuh Pakuan. He could manage the kingdom well. His people adored and respected him. His kingdom very strong.

Meanwhile, Dewi Pangrenyep’s son got angry hearing that his father and mother was put in a jail. He challenged Ciung Wanara and fought for fays. Suddenly, Nagawiru appeared and told then that they were two brothers. Then Nagawiru divided the power. The west of Galuh Pakuan was ruled by Ciung Wanara, and the east of Galuh Pakuan separated by the river was ruled by Dewi Pangrenyep’s son.
